Eric Doob: On the Rise

Photo by Joze Pozri, via All About JazzHeralded by Modern Drummer magazine as a "player to watch" and Time Out New York as a "rising jazz drummer with a deft touch", Eric Doob has brought a refined sense of swing and focused brand of interactivity to New York's modern jazz community. Just a few years out of conservatory, Doob has collaborated with luminaries such as Miguel Zenon, Manuel Valera, Chet Doxas, Paquito D'Rivera, Matthew Stevens, Ryan Keberle, and Christian Scott, to name just a few.Check out a cool clip of Eric's sideman work with Miguel Zenon here:https://youtu.be/ldCsG9QLWasDoob's performance at the Jazz Gallery this week features some of Doob's closest collaborators, so prepare for some explosive chemistry. Guitarist Matt Stevens is perhaps best known for his work with Christian Scott, but also leads a formidable group of his own that includes Doob, along with bassist Vicente Archer and pianist Gerald Clayton. This group was featured on Stevens' recent release "Woodwork."Check out this video of Doob, Stevens, and bassist Ben Williams playing a fiery trio tune back in 2011:https://youtu.be/oLLTTBtl_wcAlex Brown and Zach Brown, like Doob, are all collaborators in Paquito D'Rivera's quintet, and the three have distinguished themselves as a powerfully interactive rhythm section that has a deep sense of swing with on off-kilter Latin twist. With all the close relationships that make up this band, Doob and company are bound to play some fiercely collaborative and fascinating music at the Gallery this Thursday night.https://youtu.be/qu8aSQzr_iYThe Eric Doob Quartet plays The Jazz Gallery on Thursday, May 21st, 2015.
