Listen: John Escreet - "Wayne's World"

We'll be closing out this week's run of pianist-led ensembles with a performance by The John Escreet Project.We first took note of John's playing when he appeared here with a big band led by saxophonist David Binney. Soon after that encounter, John took the stage at The Gallery to celebrate the release of his first album, Consequences (Posi-Tone), in September of 2008. He has performed here on numerous other memorable occasions since then, including the debut of his trio (featuring the bassist John Hebert and the drummer Tyshawn Sorey) in November of 2010, as well as sideman appearances with David Binney, Tyshawn Sorey's Oblique, Antonio Sanchez's Migration (most recently this past Sunday), and others.The New York Times calls The John Escreet Project "a superb band", but you don't have to take their word for it. Listen to a clip of "Wayne's World", taken from Exception To The Rule (Criss Cross), which features the same lineup that will perform at The Gallery on Saturday.
