O'Farrill Brothers: "Home Away From Home"

A DownBeat review of the [Adam and Zack] O’Farrill Brothers' album Giant Peach (Zoho) observes, "The high level of playing and composing displayed here would be commendable for artists of any age; that the leaders are still in their teens suggests something truly great lies ahead."At a very young age, the O'Farrill brothers have made serious strides. The two sons of GRAMMY-winning pianist Arturo O’Farrill co-lead their own ensemble, aptly named “The O’Farrill Brothers Band“, which The Wall Street Journal proclaims “bristles with confidence and creativity.” They have already performed with a range of artists: between the two of them, the list includes Stefon Harris, Arturo O'Farrill, Benny Golson, DJ Logic, Kenny Burrell, and James Moody. After a couple of busy weeks spent performing nightly uptown at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola and recording with their regular band, Adam and Zack will bring a new group to The Jazz Gallery on Saturday, July 7th. The "Special Quintet" will feature the tenor saxophonist Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, the pianist Luke Celenza, and the bassist Shawn Conley. The brothers have graciously offered to donate all proceeds from the performance to The Jazz Gallery's search for a new home. In an interview that the pair granted us earlier this year, Zack comments, "The Jazz Gallery almost feels like a home away from home sometimes, and with so many incredible and inspiring artists performing here, as well as the artists that have cut their teeth here over the years, it’s a pretty humbling home and family to be a part of." Adam adds, "The Jazz Gallery is probably my favorite place to play, because its openness to all kinds of new music, and its mission to move forward, as well as the wonderful atmosphere inside the building itself. When you walk in, you feel like you’re a breathing, living part of jazz history."Watch a video about The Gallery's search for a new home, featuring testimonials from the O'Farrill Brothers, as well as Matt BrewerJustin BrownSteve ColemanAlexis CuadradoJohn EllisVijay IyerLionel LouekeJason MoranLinda OhJoe Sanders, and Lizz Wright.
