The Jazz Gallery Presents: Ralph Alessi

Trumpeter Ralph Alessi returns to The Jazz Gallery this week with some esteemed longtime collaborators. Bassist Drew Gress and drummer Nasheet Waits make up the rhythm team on two of Alessi’s recent ECM releases, Quiver and Baida, and the three have long played together in Fred Hersch’s groups. Pianist Craig Taborn has played with Alessi in groups led by Gress and fellow bassist Scott Colley. Across these many musical experiences, the four have developed a unique rapport.

Earlier this year, Alessi released his newest record on ECM, It’s Always Now. Check out the album’s lead single, “Migratory Party,” below.

For this performance, Alessi and company will play music from Baida and Quiver, as well as newly-composed material.

The Ralph Alessi Baida Quartet plays The Jazz Gallery on Thursday, August 17, 2023. The group features Mr. Alessi on trumpet, Craig Taborn on piano, Drew Gress on bass, and Nasheet Waits on drums. Sets are at 7:30 and 9:30 P.M.
