The Jazz Gallery Presents: Tarun Balani Collective

This Thursday, October 5th, The Jazz Gallery is pleased to welcome the Tarun Balani Collective to our stage for the first time. Based in New Delhi, Balani is one of India's most accomplished young jazz musicians. He is a member of several collaborative groups, including The New Collective and Time Machine, whose music melds traditional Indian music with jazz-inflected mindsets. Balani has released three albums as a leader—his debut Sacred World (which you can stream below) received very positive notice from Anthony Dean-Harris  at Nextbop.Balani's latest album is called Dharma, and features an international cast of improvisers including Indian pianist Sharik Hasan, Italian trumpeter Tiziano Bianchi, and American bassist Joshua Crumbly. Check out a short preview of the album's title track in the video below. At The Jazz Gallery, Balani will convene a slightly-altered collective featuring many of the musicians he has built relationships with in New York, including trumpeter Adam O'Farrill and guitarist Olli Hirvonen.
