This past summer, saxophonist Nicola Caminiti, pianist Chris Fishman, and drummer Miguel Russel traveled to Italy to collaborate with bassist Michelangelo Scandroglio at the Grey Cat Jazz Festival. Their project, entitled Cross Identity, mapped out a wide expanse of improvisational methods to inspire intercultural dialogue.

This week, Cross Identity reconvenes at The Jazz Gallery for two sets with a retooled lineup, including pianist Matt Wong. To get a sense of the group’s flexibility, check out Caminiti and Russel playing pianist Aaron Parks’s tune “Cartoon Element” with the bassist Hamish Smith, below.

Cross Identity plays The Jazz Gallery on Thursday, March 30, 2023. The group features Nicola Caminiti on saxophones, Matt Wong on piano/synth, Miguel Russel on drums, and a special guest on bass. Sets are at 7:30 and 9:30 P.M. $20 general admission (FREE for members), $30 reserved cabaret seating ($20 for members), $20 livestream access (FREE for members) for each set. Purchase tickets here.
