The Jazz Gallery Presents: Julieta Eugenio

During the social distancing days of 2020, saxophonist Julieta Eugenio started workshopping original compositions with bassist Matt Dwonszyk and drummer Jonathan Barber. Since coming to New York from Buenos Aires to study at Queens College in 2013, Eugenio had established herself as a keen support player, becoming a regular with pianist/vocalist Johnny O’Neal among others. But this time with Dwonszyk and Barber allowed Eugenio to hone a clear identity as a bandleader.

The trio recorded a set of compositions in March 2021, becoming the album Jump (Greenleaf) released in March 2022. While the title track cuts from a noirish cloth, the following track “La Jungla” finds the trio running in concentric rhythmic circles.
