The Jazz Gallery Presents: Margaret Whitton Award Concert

This Wednesday, October 5, The Jazz Gallery is proud to present woodwind players Anna Webber and Roscoe Mitchell in a special duo format. Webber is the recipient of this year’s Margaret Whitton Award, a year-long fellowship for women jazz artists to study with a mentor of their choosing.

A founding member of the AACM and the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Mitchell is a living luminary of improvised music. In addition to his work for ensembles of various sizes, Mitchell has cultivated a powerful solo practice, like in the striking performance of his iconic composition Nonaah, below.

Webber has been working with Mitchell for the past year, but this will be their first time playing duo together in public. Don’t miss this evening of one-of-a-kind duo improvisation.

The Jazz Gallery presents the 2022 Margaret Whitton Award Culminating Concert on Wednesday, October 5, 2022. This year’s awardee is Anna Webber, and she will be performing with mentor Roscoe Mitchell. Sets are at 7:30 and 9:30 P.M.
