The Jazz Gallery Presents: Sarah Elizabeth Charles & Jarrett Cherner

Like many musical couples at the start of the COVID-19 quarantine, vocalist Sarah Elizabeth Charles and pianist Jarrett Cherner improvised new ways of living and making art. At the time, the couple was working on their first duo album together and used the time to expand on the tracking they had done in 2019. The result is Tone, an album of aching intimacy and tenderness.

In an interview with Downbeat Magazine, Cherner described the joys and challenges of making art with one’s life partner:

Part of working together and being a couple is negotiating familiar routes of conflict that don’t necessarily have to do with the music but have to do with the relationship. We took some advice from a dear friend: No matter what happens, the relationship always comes first.

This Wednesday, August 17, Charles & Cherner will bring the music of Tone to The Jazz Gallery stage, sharing the material’s deepening hues.

Vocalist Sarah Elizabeth Charles & pianist Jarrett Cherner play The Jazz Gallery on Wednesday, August 17, 2022. Sets are at 7:30 and 9:30 P.M. E.D.T. $15 general admission ($10 for members, FREE for SUMMERPASS holders); $25 reserved cabaret seating ($20 for members, $10 for SUMMERPASS holders). Purchase tickets here.
