The Jazz Gallery Presents: Joel Ross & Friends

This weekend, vibraphonist Joel Ross returns to The Jazz Gallery with a sprawling cast of collaborators to present new music.

Earlier this year, Ross released Nublues, his latest album for Blue Note. The album’s concept formed in 2020, when Ross returned to the New School to complete his undergrad degree during the early COVID peak. He took a class with saxophonist Darius Jones that inspired Ross to explore the blues as less of a structure and more of a spirit of expression.

While this spirit is likely to imbue the music at the Gallery this weekend, Ross has a wider and less conventional palette, including the harp of Samantha Feliciano, the trombone of Kalia Vandever, and the EWI, bass, and drums of Morgan Guerin. Ross himself will even spend on time on drums & piano in addition to vibraphone.

The Jazz Gallery presents Joel Ross & Friends on Friday, June 7, and Saturday, June 8, 2024. The group features Joel Ross on vibraphone/piano/drums, Eden Girma on vocals, Ben Solomon on tenor saxophone, Morgan Guerin on ewi/bass/drums, Kalia Vandever on trombone (Saturday only), Samantha Feliciano on harp, Kanoa Mendenhall on bass/cello, and Caleb Michel on percussion. Sets are at 7:30 and 9:30 P.M. E.D.T. each night. $35 general admission ($20 for members), $45 reserved cabaret seating ($30 for members), $20 livestream access ($5 for members) for each set.
