The Jazz Gallery Presents: Harish Raghavan

For the first 13 years of his nearly two decades on the New York jazz scene, bassist Harish Raghavan rarely led his own band. He was the first call for the likes of Ambrose Akinmusire and Walter Smith III and played in the collaborative trio Act with Ben Wendell & Nate Wood, but it wasn’t until 2017 that he assembled his first working band with then up-and-comers Immanuel Wilkins, Joel Ross, Micah Thomas, and Kweku Sumbry. Developing their sound at ShapeShifter Lab, the Owl, and The Jazz Gallery, the band put out their first record in 2019, Calls for Action.

This weekend at The Jazz Gallery, Raghavan returns to the bandleader chair with a new group and a new batch music he’s preparing for his next recording. This band features many of his longest-running collaborators, including Smith III, guitarist Lage Lund, pianist Taylor Eigsti, and drummer Kendrick Scott. The combination of old friends and new music is not one to be missed.

The Harish Raghavan Quintet plays The Jazz Gallery on Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1, 2024. The group features Mr. Raghavan on bass, Walter Smith III on saxophone, Lage Lund on guitar, Taylor Eigsti on piano, and Kendrick Scott on drums. Sets are at 7:30 and 9:30 P.M. E.D.T. each night. $35 general admission ($20 for members), $45 reserved cabaret seating ($30 for members), $20 livestream access ($5 for members) for each set. Purchase tickets here.
