The Jazz Gallery Presents: National Tap Dance Day Celebration

In November 1989, US congress passed a resolution marking May 25 as “National Tap Dance Day,” a celebration of the “multifaceted art form” featuring “a joyful and powerful aesthetic” that has had “a historic and continuing influence” on American culture (all text from the resolution). May 25 was chosen as it is the birthday of Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, the famed tap dancer and all-around performer.

This Saturday, The Jazz Gallery convenes a deep lineup of tap dancers to celebrate Robinson’s legacy and the enduring evolution of the tap tradition.

Featured artists include Maurice Chestnut:

The Foreman Brothers:

And the event’s host, Gallery regular Melissa Almaguer:

The dancers will be joined by pianist Chris McCarthy’s trio in what is sure to be a festive atmosphere.
