This weekend’s performance by the Carmen Staaf Trio is unfortuantely cancelled due to illness. However, The Jazz Gallery is pleased to announce that saxophonist Ravi Coltrane will fill in with his Trifoura project. Coltrane will be joined by pianist Gadi Lehavi and drummer Elé Howell, two younger collaborators that Coltrane has mentored over the years. The three musicians are about to head out on a US tour where they’ll be joined by special guest horn players like Robin Eubanks and Jonathan Finlayson.

In recent years, Coltrane has been exploring the work of his parents John & Alice through his Cosmic Music project, both on tour and as part of his residency at SFJazz. Before checking out Trifoura at the Gallery this weekend, take a listen to Coltrane’s stirring version of Pharoah Sanders’s “The Creator Has a Master Plan” alongside fellow tenor saxophonists Joe Lovano and Tomoki Sanders.

Ravi Coltrane’s Trifoura plays The Jazz Gallery on Friday, May 24, 2024. The group features Mr. Coltrane on saxophones, Gadi Lehavi on piano & keyboards, and Elé Howell on drums. Sets are at 7:30 and 9:30 P.M. E.D.T. $40 general admission ($20 for members), $50 reserved cabaret seating ($30 for members), $20 livestream access ($5 for members) for each set.
